India vs England Highlights 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: Bumrah finishes the match, IND beat ENG by 106 runs
India vs England Highlights 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: Jasprit Bumrah ended the match by cleaning up Tom Hartley and taking his third wicket of the innings as India won the second Test by 106 runs in Visakhapatnam. India have thus levelled the five-match Test series 1-1, with the third match scheduled to be played in Rajkot from February 15. England batted with two contrasting approaches in the first and second sessions of the day. The visitors came out all guns blazing in the first session and while they initially put pressure on the Indians, the hosts came roaring back with a flurry of wickets towards the end of the session. In the second, though captain Ben Stokes and Ben Foakes seemed to be looking to grind their way through to Tea. However, Stokes himself ended up falling due to a brilliant direct hit from Shreyas Iyer, helped a little bit by some casual running from the England captain. Tom Hartley then came in and upped the ante. He put up a partnership of 55 with Ben Foakes off just 74 balls before the latter ended up falling to Jasprit Bumrah. Shoaib Bashir then became Mukesh Kumar's first wicket of the match and England were down to their last wicket. Bumrah finished it off by cleaning up Hartley and thus picking his ninth wicket of the match....Read More
Kuldeep Yadav ended a fantastic innings from Zak Crawley minutes before Lunch earlier in the day, sending him back for 73 off 132 balls. Bumrah then ended the first session with the wicket of Jonny Bairstow, which meant that Stokes was left to bat with their last four batters when play resumed in the second session. In the first session, Ashwin ended an ominous partnership between Ollie Pope and Zak Crawley, with Rohit taking a brilliant catch at slip to send the former back on 23 off 21. That gave India a boost after they were sent to all parts of the park by Crawley and Pope. Ashwin then got another big scalp in the form of Joe Root, who swung his way to 16 off 10. Axar Patel had got the first wicket of the day, dismissing nightwatchman Rehan Ahmed. However, he also leaked runs everywhere with Rehan himself scoring 23 in 31 balls. Crawley, meanwhile, crossed his half-century and dominated Axar along with Pope in the early stages of the first session. India had picked up one of the 10 wickets they needed.

Lauding Gill, England legend Cook said, "Gill played beautifully. He has serious talent… and there was probably quite a lot of pressure on his shoulders. At the World Cup [in India], all the billboards were of Kohli, but he’s the next one they want to step into his shoes. That’s a big thing to have the pressure of a country the size of India on your shoulders. As a young talent, that’s something that the likes of Tendulkar and Kohli have dealt with… and he now has to learn to deal with it."

India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: Next stop, Rajkot
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: A word for the pitch curator and his staff at Visakhapatnam. That is arguably the most balanced pitch we have seen in a Test match in India in years. It had something for the spinners, for the batters, and for the fast bowlers if they were Jasprit Bumrah and James Anderson. Let's hope this will be the norm for the rest of the series. For now, we turn to Rajkot where the third Test will start on February 15. England won the first Test by 28 runs, India won the second by 106, both were absorbing contests. No need to hype up the third then.
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: What Bumrah said
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: "I don't look at numbers. If you think about numbers there is a lot of pressure. I'm very happy that we won and contributed to that. [Pope yorker ] As a youngster that was the first delivery I learned in tennis-ball cricket. I used to feel that is the only way to take wickets. Not the leader [of the attack] but we are going through a transition so it's my responsibility to guide them. [Rohit captaincy] We discuss everything, about what I am thinking and what he thinks we should do. [Rivalry with Anderson] Not really, I always enjoy watching fast bowling, whether it's the other team or not. If someone is doing well, good on them. Look at the situation, look at the wicket. I look to solve the problem, every wicket is different and I have to use what I have in my armoury."
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: Jasprit Bumrah wins player of the match
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: Yes, Jaiswal scored 209 off 290 balls in an innings where the next best score was 34. But one can't really argue against figures of 6/45 and 3/46; and the countless kids who may have been inspired to try their hand at fast bowling and see highlights of its greatest practitioners in Test cricket after seeing that yorker to dismiss Ollie Pope in the first innings.
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: What Rohit Sharma said
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: The Indian captain's voice is almost non-existent from all the screaming and shouting he did today. “He is a champion player for us (Bumrah). When you win a game like that, you have to look at the overall performance as well. We were good with the bat. You know winning a Test in these conditions is not easy. Wanted our bowlers to step up and they did that. He looks like a good player, understands his game really well. Long way to go for him, has got a lot to offer for our team. Hope he stays humble. Wickets was really good to bat on. If I have to point anything, lot of the batters got starts but couldn't get big score. But I understand they're young and new to the game. Important for us to give them confidence. Very proud of such a young squad to come up against a team like that. Lot of the guys are quite young in terms of playing this form of the game. It'll take some time to be absolutely spot on. Want them to play freely without any pressure. Last couple of years England have been playing good cricket. Knew it wasn't going to be an easy series. Three more to go. We'll keep our check on it and make sure we do most things right,” he said.
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: Ben Stokes's thoughts
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: "We had full belief in ourselves that we could chase that down. The way we have gone about taking on challenges like that is what we are about. In moments like that, when you have scoreboard pressure, that is when we get the best out of ourselves as individuals. The way we applied ourselves and put India under pressure was great, unfortunately we didn't end up on the right side of the result. There is no suggestion [from the captain] on how to go out and play. We know there is a task ahead, we know there is 330 to get, everybody in that dressing room is a quality player. [Inexperienced spin attack] It wasn't a challenge. I absolutely loved. To look at at Tom, Bash and Rehan with three matches between them and watch them put in the performance yesterday was great. They showed a lot of maturity, a lot of skill. [Anderson?] Jimmy is amazing. You look at Jimmy, and Jasprit Bumrah, two great fast bowlers. Even when you are in the opposition, you put your hand up [for Jasprit]. Jimmy is that player for us."
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: Yashasvi Jaiswal talks
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: The fact that he is talking to the broadcasters before the presentation probably means that Bumrah will win player of the match. "One of the best moments to win a game for your country. We were just focusing on our process, focused on our fielding and I think it went well. (On pitch) There was a bit of crack and there was some seam movement, so it was a bit hard to play in the fourth innings. (Difference in white ball and red ball) It is very different, in these games I try to play till the end and in white game I go for it from the first ball and have an intent to score. (On Bumrah) The way Bumrah bowled was incredible, it was coming too fast at the slip cordon too. (On second innings batting) My intent was the same, I wanted to play out the new ball and build my innings," said Jaiswal.
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: England's fight
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: England did manage to get to 292, which is extraordinary by itself. It is the second highest fourth innings total by any visiting team in India, after Sri Lanka's 299/5 in 2017. Viv Richards' world-beating West Indies' 276/5 in 1987 remains the highest succesfull run-chase by a visiting side in India.
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: India beat England by 106 runs
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: Bumrah cleans up Hartley and ends the match. India have levelled the series 1-1. Sensational delivery to end the match. Reverse swing takes the ball away from Hartley, maybe a hint of an outside edge and it crashes into the off stump. Bumrah finishes with three in this innings to add to the six he took in the first. Ashwin finishes with three as well, he will have to wait till the next Test to get his 500th wicket but he doesn't care. He was jumping and roaring and pumping his fists when that last wicket fell. It will be a toss between Yashasvi Jaiswal and Bumrah for player of the match, Shubman Gill will be remembered for his century as well and Kuldeep for the four he took over the course of the two innings.
IND vs ENG Live Score: England 292 all out
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: FOUR! Glorious from Anderson
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: James Anderson, England's last man in, finishes off that Mukesh Kumar over with a fantastic shot down the ground to the boundary. He gets off the mark with an on drive, like great batters do. Ashwin brought back for the next over. Can he end this match with his 500th Test wicket?
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: OUT! Mukesh gets a wicket!
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: He has a tough outing in this match but there is the reward at last. He has been quite brilliant in this spell, pitches this one up and Bashir nicks it to the wicketkeeper. India one wicket away now.
Bashir c Bharat b Mukesh Kumar 0 (8)
IND vs ENG Live Score: England 281/9 in 67.3 overs
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: 66 overs gone
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: Hartley on 30 off 42, Shoaib Bashir has been promoted to 10 above James Anderson, surely based on what he did in the England first innings. The first ball he will face in this one, unenviably, will be from Jasprit Bumrah.
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: OUT! Bumrah with the breakthrough
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: Foakes spoons it right back to the bowler. Slower ball, Foakes is too early to the shot and it loops back to the bowler.
Foakes c & b Bumrah 36 (69)
IND vs ENG Live Score: England 275/8 in 65 overs
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: Bumrah returns
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: The ball does seem to be reversing a bit, judging by that over from Mukesh off which just two runs came.
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: 50-run partnership
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: It has come in just 64 balls. Mukesh Kumar comes in for a rare over in the 64th. He had been belted for 19 runs in the two overs he bowled yesterday. England continue the good fight. they need 129 to win now. If these two can survive this session, things can get really interesting after Tea.
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: But more drama...
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: First of all, Rohit seems livid that it was given not out for LBW, asking how is the umpire's call going against them if the umpire had raised his finger. Chris Gaffaney, though, seems to have told the third umpire that he is giving not out for LBW. Then another check on the ultraedge, probably to see if there was anything on the bat. Daylight though and play continues. A single off the next ball and Hartley survives on 29 off 35, Foakes on 31 off 58.
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: Almost wicket No.500 for Ashwin
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: Hartley goes for a reverse sweep off the fifth ball of that over from Ashwin, it pops up in the air and Rohit takes the catch running around behind the wicketkeeper. The finger goes up but England review. If it is out, that is history for Ashwin. But, the replays show that Hartley missed the ball entirely and it ricocheted off his forearm. And then, the third umpire checks LBW as well, impact umpire's call and wickets umpire's call. So no 500 wickets yet for Ashwin.
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: FOUR!
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: Ashwin strays down the leg side to Hartley second ball of the 63rd, the batter sweeps it to the boundary. This is a very well worked partnership at the moment.
IND vs ENG Live Score: England 267/7, England need 132 to win
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: FOUR! More runs for Hartley
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: This partnership has added 42 runs now. Outside edge off the third ball of the 62nd from Kuldeep, it goes low past slip and to the boundary behind. Didn't carry at all. Hartley has moved to 23 off 28, Foakes on 29 off 56.
IND vs ENG Live Score: England 261/7, need 138 to win
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: FOUR!
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: The more runs Hartley gets in this fashion, the more the English batters who went gung-ho would feel they missed an opportunity here. Fifth ball of the 60th from Kuldeep, Hartley rocks back and cuts it past backward point. The deficit comes under 150 now.
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: An hour done in the second session
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: Time for drinks now. India need three more wickets to win, England 154 runs. Hartley's lusty blows has brought the deficit down for the visitors but it is a bit of an understatement to say that India are the clear favourites from here. Hartley on 11 off 16, Foakes on 26 off 47.
IND vs ENG Live Score: England 245/7
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: FOUR!
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: Hartley is going after Ashwin and the latter probably wants to see exactly that, although the fact also remains that England's deficit has reduced to 157. Dot balls after that and Hartley is on 10 off 14, Foakes on 24 off 43.
IND vs ENG Live Score: England 242/7
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: SIX! Hartley goes big
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: Well, maybe Stokes needed to do this more often. Fourth ball from Ashwin's over in the 55th, Hartley runs down the wicket and smashes it over mid-on. Two runs off the next ball and then a dot and Hartley is on six off eight.
IND vs ENG Live Score: India 232/7, need 167 to win
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: 54 overs gone
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: Tom Hartley is the new man in. Replays suggest that Stokes was too slow in the early part of his run and by the time he realised that the throw was coming in, it was too late. Absolutely bizarre from the England captain in the way that he had just set up shop and seemed to almost switch off as well considering how he got ran out over there.
IND vs ENG Live Score: England 226/7
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: OUT! RUN OUT FROM NOWHERE!
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: BEN STOKES HAS FALLEN! Shreyas Iyer has given India a wicket from seemingly nothing. Extraordinary fielding effort there. The ball goes off Foakes' inside edge off Ashwin's bowling and the batters set off for a quick single. Iyer, though, swoops in and sends in a gun throw at the striker's end. The Indians were quiet until the ball hit the stumps. Replays show that Stokes was indeed yet to make it accross. A wicket out of nowhere for India and this might just be the end of the game.
Stokes run out (Iyer) 11 (29)
IND vs ENG Live Score: England 220/7 in 52.4 overs
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: England resort to attrition
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: Stokes was trying to hit Bumrah out of the attack in the early stages of this session. However, it seems the batters have seen the variable bounce and decided to set up camp. All of a sudden, the frenzied shot-making of the first session has disappeared and the two Bens are just blocking as many deliveries as possible, their runs coming in singles and a few recent overthrows and misfields, which might be irritating for India. Especially the latter. Stokes on 11 off 27, Foakes on 12 off 29.
IND vs ENG Live Score: England 217/6, need 182 to win
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: Ashwin is back
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: Bumrah has been taken off and Ashwin returns. He is on 499 wickets, remember and he will be bowling to Foakes for now.
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: MISFIELD AND FOUR!
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: A stinker from Axar Patel. There had been no runs in that over up until that last ball. Stokes punches it to deep cover, where Axar had a routine pick up. But the ball runs from underneath him and touches the boundary pads. Stokes moves to 9 off 24 with that, Foakes on 11 off 20.
IND vs ENG Live Score: England 214/6 in 50 overs, need 185 to win
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: England's run rate less than 2.50
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: Ben Foakes and Ben Stokes grinding it out at the moment. Stokes clearly biding his time at the moment and Foakes has been more proactive. England are a different side altogether at the moment.
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: FOUR!
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: Two close calls for Foakes off the first two balls of the 49th from Bumrah. The first one he played and missed. Then he gets a thick outside edge off the second but the ball stayed glued to the ground as it ran between slips and gully.
IND vs ENG Live Score: England 210/6, need 189 to win
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: Now Stokes cops a tomahawk!
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: Not quite the full blown point blank thud that Sarfaraz absorbed but almost. Foakes nailed the off drive off the first ball of the 48th from Kuldeep and it clattered on to Stokes' boots. That might not have gone to the boundary since mid-off is back but it was a shot that deserved more than a single.
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: FOUR!
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: Inswinger from Bumrah first up for the 45th, Foakes flicks it between mid-on and midwicket. England cross 200.
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: Sarfaraz cops a tomahawk!
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: Sarfaraz Khan is in as substitute today for Shubman Gill. He is standing at silly point as Kuldeep bowls the 46th and Stokes absolutely pummels the fourth ball to Sarfaraz's boots. He took it at point blank range hopped a little bit, his teammates check up on him but he grinds his teeth, the Mumbai batter, and says he is good to go. He in fact stands closer in to Stokes for the next ball. Big shout of LBW off that one and then Stokes is not able to pull the last ball that comes off slow off the surface. Stokes on 4 off 13, Foakes yet to get off the mark off seven balls.
IND vs ENG Live Score: England 198/6 in 46 overs
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: Kuldeep continues
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: Ashwin not being brought back for Ben Stokes, although he might as well bowl the next one. Kuldeep got what could be THE wicket of the day, considering just how good Zak Crawley was looking. What can he get up to now?
IND vs ENG Live Score: England 195/6
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: The players return
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: Ben Stokes has walked out with Ben Foakes accompanying him. Jasprit Bumrah has two balls left in the 43rd over and so he has the ball in his hands. Foakes is on strike, both batters on nought off nought.
IND vs ENG Live Score: England 194/6, need 205 to win, India need four wickets
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: Ashwin goes past Chandrashekhar
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: The big record of course is the 500 but in the process to getting there, Ashwin has gone past the great BS Chandrashekhar to be India's most successful bowler in Tests against England. Ashwin now has 97 wickets against them while Chandrashekhar had 95.
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: A session for the ages
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: Well we knew we are in for a humdinger of a contest today and the first session may have just captured all of it. If England do manage to put pressure from here on then, of course, the second session and whatever comes after will pip anything the first had to offer. England started off on the front foot. While Axar got the wicket of Rehan Ahmed, England were getting a lot of runs very quickly thanks to the nightwatchman's belligerence and then the way Crawley and Pope batted. Ashwin then wrestled India back into the game, first sending back Pope thanks to a brilliant reflex catch from Rohit at slips. Then he dismissed a swashbuckling Joe Root for 16 off 10. Bairstow and Crawley then seemed to try and consolidate the innings while scoring at a good rate. They seemed set to take England through to Lunch but Kuldeep Yadav rattled the cage by dismissing Crawley on 73 off 132. Then Bumrah ended the session with the wicket of Bairstow, which might just have ended this match as a contest.
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: LUNCH! England 194/6, need 205 to win
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: A session that has felt like a match in its own, where England had the momentum for much of the first half but India may have taken the game away from them after that. England now need Ben Stokes to score over 150 himself, safe to say, for them to pull off this chase.
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: OUT! Bumrah sends back Bairstow!
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: Is this the match? India have reduced England to their last four wickets in the first session, they have swung this session around and how. Fourth ball of the 43rd smacks on Bairstow's back leg, India appeal and the umpire raises the finger. Rohit reviews and it is umpire's call for the wickets.
Bairstow lbw b Bumrah 26 (36)
IND vs ENG Live Score: England 194/6
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: OUT! Kuldeep strikes in his first over of the day
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: Kuldeep sends back Zak Crawley! What an inspired change this has turned out to be from Rohit Sharma! The Indian team celebrate wildly when they see three reds on DRS, that is how much this wicket means to them. An excellent innings from Crawley comes to an end. Last ball of his over, produces sharp spin and takes Crawley's pads. Big appeal from India turned down by the umpire and Rohit takes the review. As it turned out, it didn't do enough and the ball would have smashed leg stump. Englanda are five down and India have wrestled this session away from them. In comes Ben Stokes.
Crawley lbw b Kuldeep Yadav 73 (132)
IND vs ENG Live Score: England 194/5 in 42 overs
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: FOUR! Shot from Bairstow!
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: Slightly full outside off from Bumrah to finish that over, Bairstow punches it through point. Fantastic shot there from Bairstow, he moves to 25 off 31, Crawley on 72 off 127. Kuldeep Yadav is brought on for the next over now.
IND vs ENG Live Score: England 192/4 in 41 overs
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: FOUR!
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: Bumrah has been banging away at that middle and off line, this time goes a tad bit fuller, Bairstow drives and beats the fielder at cover.
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: Bumrah returns
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: This match is poised on a knife's edge at the moment. The fact that Rohit has kept most of the field back shows the kind of effect that these England batters have had on India's tactics. Crawlety is 72 off 127, he is looking oh so good. Bairstow on 17 off 25. England need 215 to win, India need six wickets and into the cauldron returns Jasprit Bumrah. The noise level goes up around the stadium now.
IND vs ENG Live Score: England 184/4
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: What an over from Axar
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: He bowls the 38th and shows why Rohit is persisting with him. The first ball is an absolute jaffa that turns sharply and beats Crawley's outside edge. Crawley manages to get off strike third ball and then Bairstow keeps him out.
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: FOUR! Bairstow sweeps
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: Not something Bairstow does very often but he has done well here. Ashwin sends the last ball of the 37th full on the stumps, Bairstow gets low and shovels it off.
IND vs ENG Live Score: England 174/4
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: England slow down
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: Relatively speaking, that is. Bairstow has not come out with the kind of wide-eyed frenzy that Pope and Root came in with. Pope was probably instructed to play that way, Root may have been forced to do so due to his injury but England are showing now that they are not every interested in just throwing their wickets away in the name of attacking cricket. Bairstow is on 9 off 14, Crawley on 62 off 108. These two are looking to build a partnership now.
IND vs ENG Live Score: England 166/4
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: FOUR!
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: Fourth ball of the 34th from Axar, Bairstow smashes it through cover and it beats the man at the edge of the square and the sweeper beyond him as well. Then the next ball spins sharply past Bairstow's outside edge and then two runs. Bairstow is on nine off 12, Crawley on 61 off 104.
IND vs ENG Live Score: England 165/4
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: OUT! Ashwin gets Root
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: Root throws his bat again but this time, he is done. Dances down the track but he is as far away from the pitch of the ball as Visakhapatnam is from Hyderabad. Deceived in flight, the ball takes his top edge and it loops kindly to short third where Axar has the simplest of catches. Two huge wickets to Ashwin today. He is now one wicket away from No.500.
Root c Patel b Ashwin 16 (10)
IND vs ENG Live Score: England 154/4, need 245 to win
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: Close call for Root!
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: The very next ball! Big appeal from India for LBW as Root defender with bat next to pad. Umpire shakes his head, Axar animatedly convinces Rohit that there was no pad and the Indian captain obliges. Everything good for India except for the impact, which is given umpire's call. Root on 15 off 8.
IND vs ENG Live Score: England 149/3, need 250 to win
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: SIX! Root in that kind of a mood
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: That also makes it 1000 Test runs for Root in India. An extraordinary record and there could be no better way to get to it. He pounces down the track to Axar fifth ball of the 30th and sends the ball back over the bowler's head.
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: FOUR! Two in the over for Root
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: This one is a closer call though, Root not quite in control of the reverse sweep off the fifth ball, he in fact gloves it and it loops over Rohit at slip. A dot ball after that and Root is on 8 off 4. Crawley on 53 off 92.
IND vs ENG Live Score: England 140/3
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: FOUR! Root starts off in style
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: Then first ball he faces against Ashwin and he has reverse swept that for four. There should be no surprises there, just no way this England side is taking a step back, especially Root considering the fact that he has a dodgy finger.
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: GONE! Ashwin strikes, brilliant catch from Rohit!
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: The dangerous Pope has to go thanks to an unbelievable reaction catch from Rohit at first slip. Ravichandran Ashwin can celebrate.

IND vs ENG Live Score: England 132/3, need 267 to win
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: BACK TO BACK FOURS! Axar leaking like an old tap
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: Pope sweeps Axar off the fourth ball of that over and then the bowler drifts on to his pads. Bread and butter stuff for Pope as he glances it fine for another boundary. The last ball is a dot and Axar has conceded 13 runs in that over. There is the effect of the roller for some time though and so India probably have to somehow see this period through without letting the batter get on top off them the way they are at the moment. Crawley on 51 off 84, Pope on 18 off 15.
IND vs ENG Live Score: England 125/2 in 26 overs, need 274 to win
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: FOUR! Half-century for Crawley
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: Excellent shot, just the perfect way to bring up the half-century. He shimmies down the wicket to the second ball of Axar's over and then lofts the ball back over the bowler's head. 50 in 83 balls.
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: Ashwin into the attack
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: Bumrah bowled five overs for just 14 runs. His spell has ended now and Ashwin has been brought in. Rohit conserving Bumrah, he will be required once the ball gets older. Ashwin is three wickets away from 500.
IND vs ENG Live Score: England 109/2 in 24 overs, need 290 to win
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: FOUR! Pope brings out his reverse sweep
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: Just the fourth ball he has faced this day and Pope brings out the revers sweep. Full outside off from Axar for the third ball of the 24th, Pope connects perfectly and sends it past slip.
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: FOUR!
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: Crawley continuing to leave jaws on the floor early on Day 4. Fifth ball from Bumrah is over 138kph and comes into him as well, Crawley whips it off his hip and sends it through mid-on. A dot ball after that and Crawley has raced to 45 off 80, Pope on four off one.
IND vs ENG Live Score: England 105/2 in 23 overs, need 294 to win
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: FOUR! Pope off the first ball he faces
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: Axar ends up giving Pope a nice, slow half-volley to start off with, the England vice-captain dispatches that through covers for four. Axar could've done better there.
IND vs ENG Live Score: England 99/2 in 22 overs
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: OUT! Axar gets Rehan
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: There is the first blood and India would be very happy to see the back of Rehan Ahmed. He was proving to be an extremely dangerous customer. Rehan stays back seeing the flattish trajectory from Axar but the ball goes under the bat and takes the pads. India appeal, the umpire raises his finger and Rehan walks off without even considering DRS.
Rehan lbw b Axar 23 (31)
IND vs ENG Live Score: England 95/2 in 21.5 overs
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: FOUR! Almost a stunning catch from Rohit
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: The Indian captain seems to have got a feather of a touch on it at first slip and so this might go down as a dropped catch. It would be quite unfair if it does but this is encouraging for Axar. Second ball off the 22nd turns, takes Rehan's outside edge and darts just out of reach for the diving Rohit at first slip. It goes to the boundary, just to rub some salt into India's wounds.
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: FOUR! Majestic from Crawley
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: Oh that is just the most wonderful on drives you will get to see. Bumrah overpitches for the third delivery, Crawley presents the full face of the bat to him.
IND vs ENG Live Score: England 91/1
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: FOUR BYES!
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: Bumrah looks for the leg stump yorker first ball of the 21st, he misses it by centimetres and it beats Bharat as well.
IND vs ENG Live Score: England 87/1
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: Rehan survives Bumrah…
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: For now at least. Bumrah got an edge off Rehan off the first ball itself but it didn't carry to gully. In fact, Shreyas Iyer did a very good job there, diving to his left and stopping the ball from reaching the boundary. He is then beaten off the third ball, then the fourth nips in and hits him on the pad. Rehan then just about avoids edging the fourth ball that darted down leg side and then he tucks in behind the last ball, defending it back to the bowler. Second maiden from Bumrah and still India have conceded 15 already today.
IND vs ENG Live Score: England 83/1
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: FOUR! Back to back boundaries
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: This time, Rehan connects perfectly. Second ball is a half-volley from Axar, Rehan drives it wonderfully through covers. He gets off strike next ball and Crawley blocks out the rest which means Rehan will face Bumrah next over. He is on 19 off 16, Crawley on 34 off 66.
IND vs ENG Live Score: England 82/1, need 317 to win.
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: FOUR! Rehan swinging away
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: Miscue once again but the ball goes off the inside edge of the bat and beats mid-on to the boundary. Rehan Ahmed following his instructions dutifuly.
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: FOUR!
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: Crawley has been trying not to drive all along against Bumrah but the latter sends the last ball of the 17th a tad bit too full. Crawley doesn't hesitate here, brings out the cover drive and the ball darts to the boundary for the first time today. He moves to 34 off 63, Rehan at the other end on 10 off 13.
IND vs ENG Live Score: England 73/1
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: Rehan comes out swinging
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: Bumrah bowled a maiden to start out with. Axar bowls the second over of the day, and the 16th of the innings and Rehan tries to smash the first ball he faces over mid-on. It was miscued but the ball doesn't carry to the fielder there.
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: Early blow for India!
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: Shubman Gill has hurt his right index finger and won't be taking the field today. That is a big blow for India, Gill has been extremely reliable in the slip cordon.
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: The players walk out!
India vs England Live Score 2nd Test Day 4, IND vs ENG: Ok then, enough chatter, time for what promises to be an exciting first hour of Day 4. Jasprit Bumrah has the ball in his hands. Zak Crawley has the strike, Rehan Ahmed at the other end.
India vs England Live Score, 2nd Test Match Day 4, IND vs ENG: The pitch
India vs England Live Score, 2nd Test Match Day 4, IND vs ENG: Dinesh Karthik and Eoin Morgan speak about where the pitch stands ahead of the fourth day. Seen a couple of balls with variable bounce. That is because there are a few huge cracks near the middle of the pitch. There are a few cracks fuller to the right hander as well, right under the batter’s eyes. Those will interest the spinners. England will look to trouble India with their sweeps and reverse sweeps, they reckon.
India vs England Live Score, 2nd Test Match Day 4, IND vs ENG: The match situation
India vs England Live Score, 2nd Test Match Day 4, IND vs ENG: Less than half an hour to go for the start of play and so it is the perfect time for us to do a little recap. England are 67/1, needing 332 runs to win after India set them a record target of 399. Opener Zak Crawley is on 29 off 50 balls, nightwatchman Rehan Ahmed with him on nine off eight. Ben Duckett fell to Ravichandran Ashwin yesterday having scored 28 in 27 balls.
India vs England Live Score, 2nd Test Match Day 4, IND vs ENG: 'The morning session will be very important for us'
India vs England Live Score, 2nd Test Match Day 4, IND vs ENG: Shubman Gill felt that England will find it tough to chase down a record 399, even though they had earlier chased down 378 against India rather comfortably in Edgbaston in 2022. “As the game goes on, it will have variable bounce as we saw today. It is not turning as much as the other pitches but it is definitely doing something. It is not easy to score runs here. England are never out of the game. I think this is a different kind of wicket than what we played at Edgbaston. Having said that, the morning session will be very important for us as we have seen there is always a bit of moisture coming at the start of the day. That will be the key for us,” said Gill.
India vs England Live Score, 2nd Test Match Day 4, IND vs ENG: Gill's close call on 4
India vs England Live Score, 2nd Test Match Day 4, IND vs ENG: Gill managed to overturn an LBW call that went against him when he was on four yesterday. He knew very little about that though with his partner Shreyas Iyer eventually convincing him to ask for the DRS. It had looked plumb to the naked eye but then replays showed a spike right when the ball was between bat and pad. In the end, it was decided that there was a faint edge and Gill survived. He later said that he didn't feel the inside edge at all.
India vs England Live Score, 2nd Test Match Day 4, IND vs ENG: Cook on Gill
India vs England Live Score, 2nd Test Match Day 4, IND vs ENG: England batting great and former captain Alastair Cook was all praise for Gill. Cook says that Gill has made sure that he cannot be dropped even if KL Rahul and Virat Kohli return for the next Test. "What we’ve seen today is just how talented he is, the shots he has, and we’re definitely going to see him the rest of this series. He was out of form, hadn’t scored many runs, and there’s Rahul and Kohli to come back into the side, but he’s made sure now that the selectors can’t ignore him," he said on TNT Sports.
India vs England Live Score, 2nd Test Match Day 4, IND vs ENG: England's 'nighthawk' Rehan Ahmed
India vs England Live Score, 2nd Test Match Day 4, IND vs ENG: The nightwatchman is usually sent out to guard the wicket and keep it warm for a mainstream batter the next day. Not in Bazball. Rehan Ahmed had been sent out with the cricketing equivalent of what Captain America told the Hulk to do before the start of the climactic battle in The Avengers (the first one). And smash he did. Rehan faced eight balls and two of them were sent to the boundary. He swung at nearly all of them, connecting with the third last and last deliveries of the day off Axar Patel. One can expect more of the same from him for whatever amount of time he spends at the crease today. This was a task that Stuart Broad was trusted in and the former pacer had started calling himself the ‘nighthawk’ as opposed to the more humble nightwatchman. Broad also annointed Rehan as his successor to the role when the young spinner hit a few lusty blows in Pakistan last year.
India vs England Live Score, 2nd Test Match Day 4, IND vs ENG: Fast bowling Jekyll and Hyde situation for India
India vs England Live Score, 2nd Test Match Day 4, IND vs ENG: India's two pacers could not be more different in every way. Unfortunately for them, that also includes results. Jasprit Bumrah is completely on song and was as difficult for the England batters to deal with as ever on Day 3. In the five overs he bowled, he conceded just nine runs. On the other hand, Mukesh Kumar got belted for 19 in the two overs he bowled. In the first innings, Bumrah had figures of 6/45 in 15.5 overs. Mukesh returned 0/44 in seven. It is unfair to expect anyone to be even close to being as good as Bumrah but the seemingly utter lack of control at the other end from Mukesh has led to a lot of people on social media wistfully remembering Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav brilliantly backing up Bumrah and Mohammed Shami.
India vs England Live Score, 2nd Test Match Day 4, IND vs ENG: Test run chases in India
India vs England Live Score, 2nd Test Match Day 4, IND vs ENG: Touring sides don't often manage to pull off a big run chase in India. In fact, of the five highest sucesfull highest run chases in India, four belong to the hosts themselves. The only team that stands out? Viv Richards' world beating West Indies in November 1987 in Delhi. The great man himself smashed an unbeaten 109 in 111 balls in the second innings to help the West Indies chase down a target of 276. Above that is India's succesfull chase of 387 against England in Chennai in 2008, in which Virender Sehwag scored 83 in 68 balls after which Sachin Tendulkar and Yuvraj Singh saw India home, scoring 103* and 85* respectively.
India vs England Live Score, 2nd Test Match Day 4, IND vs ENG: Root's injury
India vs England Live Score, 2nd Test Match Day 4, IND vs ENG: Joe Root sustained the injury during the 18th over of India’s second innings when he tried to catch an edge from Shubman Gill in the slips. Facing a length ball on off from spinner Tom Hartley, Gill went forward and played with hard hands, only to get a thick edge which flew towards the left of Root in the slip cordon. He managed to get a finger to the ball but could not complete the catch and the ball went for a boundary. "Joe Root sustained an external blow to his right little finger, attempting a slip catch in the first session of D3. The England medical team will keep him off the field for the time being to treat and ice," England team management said in an update. Anderson said that the reason why Root didn't return to the field is because the team didn't want to risk an external blow.
India vs England Live Score, 2nd Test Match Day 4, IND vs ENG: Anderson on his Day 3 performance
India vs England Live Score, 2nd Test Match Day 4, IND vs ENG: This is what the great man had to say about what he did on Day 3. "I'm obviously delighted with the five wickets (in the match) but I think I'm more pleased with the fact I got through 35 overs in three days," said Anderson, who played his first Test in 2003. "I felt strong when I was doing it as well. All that work I was doing in the last few months has really paid off, and that's probably the most satisfying thing for me."
India vs England Live Score, 2nd Test Match Day 4, IND vs ENG: The evergreen Jimmy
India vs England Live Score, 2nd Test Match Day 4, IND vs ENG: By the age of 41, great fast bowlers can be seen doing the rounds of commentary boxes studios, talking about the current game or being interviewed about their own great careers. Not James Anderson. At 41, he is still out there, playing Test cricket for England. And he is no spectator. Anderson was England's joint highest wicket taker in the first innings and on Day 3, he sent back a dangerous-looking Rohit Sharma and the first innings double centurion Yashasvi Jaiswal. That took his career tally to 695 and he is now one five-wicket haul away from becoming the third bowler after Shane Warne and Muttiah Muralitharan, and the first pacer ever, to get to 700 Test wickets.
India vs England Live Score, 2nd Test Match Day 4, IND vs ENG: Where this chase would stand in overall records
India vs England Live Score, 2nd Test Match Day 4, IND vs ENG: If England do pull this off, this will be the fifth highest succesfull run chase of all time in Test history, surpassing the 395 that the West Indies chased against Bangladesh in 2021. They would be four runs behind India's miraculous chase of 404 that was orchstrated by Sunil Gavaskar and Gundappa Viswanath against the almighty West Indies in 1976, five runs behind the 404 that Australia chased against England in 1948 thanks to Don Bradman and Arthur Morris, 15 runs behing the 414 that AB de Villiers powered South Africa to against Australia at the WACA in 2008 and 19 behind the 418 that the West Indies chased down against Steve Waugh's world beating Australia in 2003 thanks to Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Ramnaresh Sarwan. Yes, this chase is in some elite company.
India vs England Live Score, 2nd Test Match Day 4, IND vs ENG: Anderson on England's chase
India vs England Live Score, 2nd Test Match Day 4, IND vs ENG: Anderson spoke more about how England plan to approach this chase in the post-match press conference. "I know there are 180 overs left in the game, but we will try to do it in 60 or 70. That's the way we play." Wowza
India vs England Live Score, 2nd Test Match Day 4, IND vs ENG: Gill on his celebration
India vs England Live Score, 2nd Test Match Day 4, IND vs ENG: Like that celebration, Gill kept his explanation simple as well in the post-match press conference. “It felt good. I just thought the job was not done for the team. So, that's why it was a little mellowed celebration,” he said.
India vs England Live Score, 2nd Test Match Day 4, IND vs ENG: Gill's (non-)celebration
India vs England Live Score, 2nd Test Match Day 4, IND vs ENG: Shubman Gill finally brought an end to his string of low scores with a rather majestic second innings century in Visakhapatnam. Despite Yashasvi Jaiswal scoring a double century and Jasprit Bumrah bringing the world to a halt with his 6-wicket haul, one could argue that it is because of Gill's 104 off 147 balls that India are so far ahead in this match but there was no big celebration from the No.3 batter after he got to the three-figure mark. There was only a look of relief on his face as he slowly took off his helmet and looked to the sky.
India vs England Live Score, 2nd Test Match Day 4, IND vs ENG: Baz's Bazball-style pep talk
India vs England Live Score, 2nd Test Match Day 4, IND vs ENG: James Anderson revealed what Brendon McCullum told the England players at the end of play on Day 2 and well, you shouldn't be surprised really. "We got sat down by the coach [Brendon McCullum] last night and he said, 'if India get 600 ahead, we're going to try and chase it down'. And that's exactly what we're going to try and do," he said.
India vs England Live Score, 2nd Test Match Day 4, IND vs ENG: England's highest successful run chase
India vs England Live Score, 2nd Test Match Day 4, IND vs ENG: If England do pull off this bit of madness today, they will blow past their own highest ever successful run chase. Interestingly, though, this record was rewritten twice in the last five years and the last time it happened was in the Bazball era against India, when Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow's centuries made a mockery of a target of 378 in the postponed fifth Test at Edgbaston in 2022. The instance before that was technically before the Bazball era although one could say it was a preview of that. You know which one that is. The Ashes, Headingley, Ben Stokes 135*, Jack Leach 1*, Tim Paine fumbling a review, Nathan Lyon fumbling the ball. Yes, that one.
India vs England Live Score, 2nd Test Match Day 4, IND vs ENG: The playing XIs - a reminder
India vs England Live Score, 2nd Test Match Day 4, IND vs ENG: India: Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rohit Sharma(c), Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, Rajat Patidar, Srikar Bharat(w), Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mukesh Kumar
England: Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow, Ben Stokes(c), Ben Foakes(w), Rehan Ahmed, Tom Hartley, Shoaib Bashir, James Anderson
India vs England Live Score, 2nd Test Match Day 4, IND vs ENG: Hello and welcome!
India vs England Live Score, 2nd Test Match Day 4, IND vs ENG: Well this is it, England start the day needing 332 more runs to win, having finished Day 3 on 67/1, while India need nine wickets. In normal Test match circumstances, the batting side's first priority in this situation would be to somehow survive the first two sessions, then survive the third session, and then think about how to survive Day 5. But this England side are going to make a red-hot dash at the target. James Anderson was talking about head coach Brendon McCullum saying that they are going to take a shot at any target even if it is over 600 and that they are going to try and chase down 399 in 60 or 70 overs even though they have 180 in hand. The reputation they have built under Ben Stokes and McCullum is such that even the most hardened skeptic of the Bazball method would know that they could actually pull this off if India let their guards down. So today, it's either going to be a lot of fours and sixes, or a lot of wickets, or, best case scenario, both. In short, it's going to be fun. And don't you love it when Test cricket is fun.
