Arvind Kejriwal arrest Highlights: Delhi CM remanded to CBI custody for three days

AAP leader Sanjay Singh on Wednesday said he will talk to INDIA bloc leaders over Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's arrest and request them to raise the issue in Parliament as he accused the BJP-led Centre of misusing probe agencies to target opposition parties.

Addressing a press conference here, Singh alleged that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is acting against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) with ill-will and political malice. (PTI)

AAP leader Sanjay Singh said in a press conference, “I appeal to the INDIA bloc parties to raise the issue of Kejriwal's arrest in Parliament. We are talking to other opposition parties. I have also talked to Uddhav Thackeray. I will talk to Congress leaders. It is a misuse of probe agencies. All the opposition parties will be requested to raise the issue in Parliament.”

During the remand period, the Court allowed Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal's wife Sunita Kejriwal to meet him for 30 minutes every day and his Lawyer to meet him every day for 30 minutes. The court also allowed them to carry his prescribed medicines and home-cook food allowed during the remand period, says Court.

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has been remanded to CBI custody for three days.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) told the Supreme Court on Wednesday, saying that the trial court judge acted hastily and failed to provide the prosecutor with a fair chance to challenge the bail granted to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

"Arvind Kejriwal got bail on 20th June. Immediately ED got a stay. The very next day CBI made him an accused. And today he was arrested. The whole system is trying to ensure that the man does not come out of jail. This is not law. This is dictatorship, this is emergency," Sunita Kejriwal said in a post on 'X'.

Arvind Kejriwal said to court earlier today, “They are sensationalizing the issue. It needs to be clarified. Ye top headline hongi saare newspapers ki. Inka maqsad hi sensationalize karne ka hain.”

AAP leader Jasmine Shah said, "...CBI has been exposed in front of the country. Today CBI was caught red-handed for giving a false statement inside the court...CBI stated that Arvind Kejriwal had put the entire blame for Delhi's excise policy on Manish Sisodia. Arvind Kejriwal himself stood up and said that CBI was lying. Arvind Kejriwal is innocent, Manish Sisodia is innocent and the entire Aam Aadmi Party is innocent..."

The court order on Kejriwal's bail plea is expected to be delivered by the Delhi court bench shortly.

Kejriwal told the court, "It is being shown in the media, citing CBI sources, that I have put the entire blame on Manish Sisodia in a statement. I have not given any statement that Sisodia is guilty or anyone else is guilty. I have said Sisodia is innocent, AAP is innocent, I am innocent."

AAP leader Reena Gupta said, "The court has not given the order yet, the judge will sit again at 4:30 pm and then the order will be given. Today the CBI tried its best because there is no case, they wanted to plant some news and sensationalize it. The biggest issue is that CBI has had these 50 thousand documents for 2 years, they never called Arvind Kejriwal. When did Arvind Kejriwal become the accused from being the witness?...The court has reserved its decision...The CBI has not presented anything new which they have not had for a long time, so this was a direct political conspiracy that Kejriwal ji should not come out, so today an attempt is being made to arrest him through the CBI..."

The AAP alleged on Wednesday that when there was a possibility of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal getting bail from the Supreme Court in a money laundering case, the BJP panicked and got him arrested in a "fake case" by the CBI.

Earlier in the day, a Delhi court allowed the CBI to formally arrest Kejriwal in the Delhi excise policy case.

The CBI arrested Kejriwal after Special Judge Amitabh Rawat passed the order. The agency has sought five-day custody of the chief minister in the case.

In a post in Hindi on X, the AAP said, "The dictator crossed all limits of cruelty!! Today when there was every possibility of Chief Minister @ArvindKejriwal getting bail, the BJP went into panic mode and got Kejriwal arrested by the CBI in a fake case."

"The CBI took Kejriwal ji to Rouse Avenue Court where his blood sugar level dropped very low. Dictator, no matter how much oppression you inflict, Kejriwal will neither bow down nor break," it said.

He says that Kejriwal’s arrest is the “biggest abuse of process of law.” He adds that the arrest & remand’s prayer is “unscrupulous”.

Arvind Kejriwal's Lawyer Vikarm Chaudhari says that Kejriwal has been arrested by violating section 41 of CrPC.

Kejriwal's lawyer Vikarm Chaudhari said that the remand application is “totally vague”. It’s a classic case of abuse of power. The principles of Arnesh Kumar and Satinder Kumar Antil are required to be applied in “letter and spirit” in this case.

He further pointed out that though Kejriwal’s name was cropping in almost every chargesheet but the CBI chose to maintain “eerie silence”. He adds that the timing of arrest by the CBI points towards the illegality of the arrest

The Supreme Court on Wednesday allowed Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal to withdraw his petition against the interim stay on his bail granted by the Delhi high court last week and file a fresh petition to also include the challenge to the HC’s final order

of June 25 order reversing the bail in the Delhi excise scam case probed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

A vacation bench of justices Manoj Misra and SVN Bhatti passed the order after a request for withdrawal was made by senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi appearing for the national convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

Singhvi pointed out that since the passing of the June 21 order by the HC when an interim stay was granted on the bail order passed by the trial court on June 20, subsequent developments have taken place as the high court has pronounced its final order on June

25 and Kejriwal has been arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the Delhi excise policy case.

CBI SSP Singh responds saying that it didn’t want to overreach the Supreme Court as the top court was considering grant of interim bail. He says that the probe agency got the sanction to prosecute under section 17A of the Prevention of Corruption Act came in April but it showed restraint as the Supreme Court was considering interim bail.

“We did not want to over reach the majesty of the SC. He says that sanction under section 17A of the Prevention of Corruption Act came in April… We showed our restraint. Every time we have tried to show our restraint. Now it is absolutely mandatory cause now we want to conclude (the investigation) by July 3. There is an emergency for it. We will try to file the chargesheet thereafter,” Singh says to court
