Kolkata doctor rape-murder case Live: According to Dr Anil Kumar Nayak, general secretary, Indian Medical Association (IMA), its representatives will meet West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday.

“Today our IMA leaders have met health minister JP Nadda and demanded that hospitals and medical colleges should be declared safe zones. A central law should be brought so that doctors can work safely in hospitals,” he said.

The commission has issued notices to the Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police, West Bengal calling for a detailed report in the matter within two weeks.

Kolkata doctor rape-murder case Live: In an office memorandum, AIIMS Delhi reminded protesting doctors that no such action is allowed around the campus and warned that protests would make them liable for disciplinary action.

The memorandum also noted that such actions will be in contravention to the directions of the High Court and make them liable for contempt of court

“Why do you protect (principal)? Let him tell the truth. Something is missing here”, the bench wondered.

The state government offered to reveal everything if the proceedings are carried out in camera.

The court noted the claim of protesting doctors, who protested former principal's remark that the victim was suffering from psychosis.

Kolkata doctor rape-murder case Live: Wondering whether the principal knew the procedure to deal with a medico-legal case, the court questioned why the police registered a case of unnatural death.

On the former principal, the bench asked, “So powerful? A government counsel is representing him?”.

Senior advocate for the victim's parents told the court that they were told the victim was ill and later committed suicide. They also claimed that the police asked them to sit outside for three hours and later informed them that the female doctor had committed suicide.

Kolkata doctor rape-murder case Live: Senior Advocate Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya argued that the extent of injuries indicated in the postmortem report cannot be caused by one person.

The state government denied such possibility, saying that the nature of injuries would have been different if more people were involved in committing the crime.

Kolkata doctor rape-murder case Live: Assuring that the police are conducting a transparent investigation, the state government said that it will submit all details of the probe so far in a sealed cover to the bench.

It also noted that he was appointed to another college by the state government after resignation.

The bench mentioned that something needs to be done and observed that the state can protect the patients.

The court also considered appealing to the doctors association and asked what the state government is doing to address their concerns.

He was appointed as the principal of CNMC Medical college within hours of his resignation. The court also asked the government to produce his resignation letter.
