Kolkata rape case live updates: A Kolkata court has extended the CBI custody of ex-principal of RG Kar hospital Dr Sandip Ghosh by three days after the investigating agency alleged that Ghosh was not cooperative.

Apart from Ghosh, Tala police station officer in charge Abhijit Mondal's custody has also been extended.

The CBI admitted in court that they have not found evidence of Ghosh and Mondal's involvement in the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar, yet.

Kolkata rape case live updates: The father of the trainee doctor who was raped and murdered at RG Kar hospital told news agency ANI that they are awaiting the day the accused will be punished.

“The day the accused will be punished, that day will be our victory... In the year 2021 also, many allegations were levelled against former principal Sandip Ghosh, if the chief minister had taken action against Sandip Ghosh then, today my daughter would have been alive,” he said.

"We are holding this meeting to decide on whether to continue with our 'cease work', as some of our demands have been fulfilled by the state government," a doctor told PTI

Kolkata rape case live updates: The Bengal government on Tuesday removed Dr Kaustav Nayak as the Director of Medical Education (DME) and Dr Debasish Halder as Director of Health Services (DHS).

The order was in line with the demands made by junior doctors during a meeting with chief minister Mamata Banerjee, where she had promised to remove Nayak and Halder from their positions.

Dr Swapan Soren has been appointed as the new director of health services and Dr Suparna Dutta will be officer on special duty of medical education, according to the order released by the health ministry.

Dr Nayak has been transferred to the post of Director of the Institute of Health and Family Welfare while Dr Halder has been stationed as the special duty officer of public health at Swasthya Bhawan.

Senior advocate Kapil Sibal for the Bengal government said the state is implementing biometric registration systems to restrict access to places where women doctors rest.

CJI DY Chandrachud asked the state to follow a participatory process in which senior and junior doctors could participate to share their inputs. The bench also ordered enough number of toilets and CCTV cameras be installed within two weeks.

Kolkata rape case live updates: Association for ‘doctors for patients’ in West Bengal objected to the state government's new policy to avoid deploying women doctors at night shifts.

“You cannot tell women to not work at night. It is your duty to provide them protection whenever they work. Women pilots, defence personnel, etc, work at night”, CJI DY Chandrachud said.

West Bengal government said SC it would withdraw its notification for women doctors limiting duty to 12 hours and night duty avoidance.

Kolkata rape case live updates: Senior Advocate Karuna Nandy for the junior doctors requested the court to ask the CBI to submit a status report on the financial irregularities case, in addition to the rape and murder case.

“The State says the West Bengal medical system is collapsing because of the strikes of the junior doctors. The senior doctors are supporting us by working overtime," she said.

Sibal countered the CBI's claim that the pen drive handed over to them had footage of only 27 minutes.

Kolkata rape case live updates: The Supreme Court bench headed by CJI DY Chandrachud directed Wikipedia to take down name and photo that disclose the identity of victim doctor from its website.

“The governing principle is that identity of the victim in rape and murder shall not be disclosed. Wikipedia shall therefore comply with the previous order passed,” CJI said.

Solicitor General appearing for the CBI also expressed concern on the same issue. CJI DY Chandrachud promises to pass an order.

We will say these are very valuable inputs for the CBI, they are handicapped themselves at this point in time by the 5-day delay, but they should also look at this to ensure this is obtained,” CJI DY Chandrachud observed in court.

Kolkata rape case live updates: In connection with alleged financial irregularities in RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) is carrying out raids across six locations in Kolkata.

Search operations were underway at the Sithi residence of TMC's Serampore MLA Sudipto Roy and the house of a medicine dealer, besides four other places.

"These raids are as part of our investigation into the alleged financial irregularities in RG Kar Hospital. We have certain inputs due to which these raids are being conducted," an ED officer told PTI.
