With Australia marching into the semifinals undefeated, the defeat meant India will now have to wait for the outcome of New Zealand's match against Pakistan.
Harmanpreet Kaur scored a half-century, but India failed to reach the 152-run target and were restricted to 142/9 in 20 overs courtesy a collective effort by the Aussies bowlers.
