India Test Cricket Team

Having snapped their ICC trophy drought with a T20 World Cup win in the West Indies and USA in 2024, the Indian national cricket team enters a fresh era under new coach Gautam Gambhir. With plenty of experienced and young players in their ranks, India are gunning for the title of the best team across all formats. With depth in talent and resources, team India will be looking for the results to make that name their own.

A squad of stars

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are well into their 30s and have a remarkable career behind them, but the pair is an integral part of India's team setup in Test and ODI cricket. The duo has played some of their best cricket in recent months in the biggest matches, and haven’t shown signs of slowing down.

They are joined by big stars who have added a trophy to their records, with Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant and Suryakumar Yadav amongst others who are now well-established senior members of the squad and are proven match-winners.

With the talent of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill beginning to emerge, as well as plenty of high-potential players waiting in the wings for their chance, the future also looks bright for Team India. The T20 World Cup win promises to be just the start of a successful spell in international cricket.

The Indian national team is currently captained by Rohit Sharma in Tests and ODIs.

The road ahead for Team India

India will return to Test action with a series against Bangladesh in September and October, before hosting familiar rivals New Zealand for a Test series as well. Crucial wins here could all but certify India’s presence in a third consecutive World Test Championships final.

The date to remember for Team India fans will be November 22, which marks the beginning of an all-important tour of Australia and the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Can India make it a hat-trick of wins in Australia while visiting down under?

2025 will see the next iteration of the Champions Trophy as well, with India eyeing this as a year to potentially add two more ICC trophies as well as wins abroad.

Earning a place in the history books

India is one of the most successful teams in cricket, with a deep history going into the 20th century. The national team has won the ODI World Cup twice, in 1983 in England and in 2011 at home, while also lifting the T20 World Cup trophy in its inaugural edition in 2007 and once again in 2024.

However, there have been instances where India underperformed in major tournaments compared to the quality of players present in the team, and it is a change that the new management under coach Gautam Gambhir will be looking to bring in, with an emphasis on results in big matches.

Team India boasts of the most widespread and successful domestic structure with the twin systems of the IPL and the Ranji Trophy, with a consistent supply of exciting young prospects hungry to perform and win. For all that to mean something, India will be looking forward to this translating into an era of dominance over world cricket.
