Mumbai Indians T20 Domestic-w Cricket Team

The Mumbai women’s team is owned by Indiawin Sports Private Limited, a subsidiary of Reliance Industries Limited, and established by its chairman and managing director, Mukesh Ambani. The Mumbai-based franchise was founded on 25th January 2023 and received the second most expensive bid at INR 912.99 crore to become one of the five teams to participate in the inaugural Women’s T20 League. The franchise went on to become the champions in the inaugural season by defeating Delhi in the final.

In the inaugural edition of the Women’s T20 League, the team had assigned former England skipper Charlotte Edwards as the head coach with India’s legendary former pace bowler Jhulan Goswami playing the role of a bowling coach and mentor. The batting coach duties had been assigned to former India player Devieka Palshikar and England’s Lydia Greenway will be the fielding coach. Harmanpreet Kaur captained the side having been picked up for INR 1.8 crore but she was just the third most expensive player.

In the inaugural edition of the Women’s T20 League, the Mumbai franchise had some memorable performances, and several individuals caught the eyes of the cricketing world. Natalie Sciver-Brunt, the English all-rounder was their most expensive buy in the first season and she contributed heavily with both bat and ball and it was another overseas all-rounder in the form of West Indies skipper, Hayley Matthews who was the star performer as she won the ‘Most Valuable Player’ Award in that title-winning first season. Also, Saika Ishaque, a fairly unknown face had a breakthrough first season with the Mumbai franchise which eventually led to a senior international debut for India.

For the 2024 season of the Women’s T20 League, the reigning champions added a few new faces to the squad but the majority of the lineup has been kept the same. A name that stood out was that of veteran Protea pacer Shabnim Ismail who was released by the UP franchise and Mumbai snatched her up to bolster their pace attack. Another interesting buy was that of all-rounder Amandeep Kaur.
