Lebanon crisis live updates: UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres expressed "grave concern" about escalation of conflict in Beirut in the past 24 hours.

A statement by his spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said, “The Secretary-General is gravely concerned by the dramatic escalation of events in Beirut in the last 24 hours.”

He added, “This cycle of violence must stop now, and all sides must step back from the brink. The people of Lebanon, the people of Israel, as well as the wider region, cannot afford an all-out war.”

Lebanon crisis live updates: The health ministry in Lebanon has stated that more than a 1,000 people have been killed in the last two weeks due to attacks by Israeli forces.

They also said that around 6,000 people had been injured. Several hospitals have been advised to not admit non-urgent cases to accommodate the growing number of casualties and wounded people from strike zones.

People have also been evacuated from residential areas and made to take shelter in primary schools and open fields.

Lebanon crisis live updates: Russia's foreign minister Sergey Lavrov, on Saturday, stated that Israel's strikes and assassination of Hassan Nasrallah was a deliberate attempt to provoke Iran and the US “to unleash a full-blown war in the entire region.”

Lavrov told a news conference, “I think — well not even I think but a lot of people say — that Israel wants to create the grounds to drag the U.S. directly into this, and so to create these grounds is trying to provoke Iran."

Lebanon crisis live updates: The United Nations has said that more than 211,000 people have been displaced from southern Lebanon in the aftermath of Israeli airstrikes.

People are being evacuated and have moved to the Syria border. Several hospitals outside southern Lebanon have been asked to not admit patients with non-emergency cases to accommodate those with critical cases from hard-hit area.

At least 20 primary healthcare centers have shut down as well said the U.N. Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

Lebanon crisis live updates: The Canadian foreign ministry announced that they would provide C$10 million as humanitarian aid to civilians in Lebanon, on Saturday.

The foreign ministry released a statement calling for a 21-day ceasefire a and added, "Canada urges all parties involved in the conflict to protect civilians, including humanitarian workers, from harm."

Lebanon crisis live updates: US President Joe Biden and Vice-President Kamala Harris have maintained their key ally Israel's right to defend themselves.

President Biden on Saturday said that Nasrallah's death was a “measure of justice" for victims of a four-decade “reign of terror". VP Kamala Harris also echoed his statements and said that Nasrallah's death was part of the larger attack on Israel on October 7.

Despite these statements, the USA also called for a ceasefire in Lebanon as tensions in the Middle-East continue to rise.

Lebanon crisis live updates: After Israeli air strikes devastated Beirut and other areas in Lebanon, late on Saturday Lebanon launched a counter-attack in Israeli territory.

Sirens were sounded in Jerusalem as Lebanon responded to the death of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in an Israeli strike on Beirut.

Earlier, Hezbollah claimed to have sent 65 rockets into Israeli territory though they caused minimal damage due to Israel's defense alert systems.

A missile was also launched by Yemen into central Israel but was intercepted by the IDF.

Lebanon crisis live updates: The UK has called for an immediate ceasefire in Lebanon as Israeli air strikes have led to severe casualties and damage in the country, including the death of top Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.

British Foreign Secretary David Lammy posted on X, saying, “We agreed on the need for an immediate ceasefire to bring an end to the bloodshed. A diplomatic solution is the only way to restore security and stability for the Lebanese and Israeli people.”

Lammy was referring to his discussion with Lebanon's Prime Minister Najib Mikati on Saturday, following an Israeli airstrike on Beirut which killed Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.

Lebanon crisis live updates: Iran has called for for emergency UN Security Council meeting amid Israeli strikes in Beirut that led to the death of A senior member of Iran's Revolutionary Guards, deputy commander Abbas Nilforoushan on Friday.

"Iran will not hesitate to exercise its inherent rights under international law to take every measure in defense of its vital national and security interests," Iran's U.N. ambassador, Amir Saeid Iravani, said in a letter to the 15-member council.
