Israel confirmed the death of influential Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah on Saturday, in operation ‘New Order' wherein they launched strikes in Beirut on Friday, levelling seven buildings and killing six people.

In a post on X, the IDF wrote,“Hassan Nasrallah will no longer be able to terrorize the world.” US President Joe Biden and Vice-President Kamala Harris have backed Israel in the killing of Nasrallah, stating that justice had been done for many victims of the Hezbollah.

Iran on the other hand has condemned the killing of Nasrallah and has called for a UN Security Council meeting to stop Israel's strikes in Lebanon and other areas in the region.

A senior member of Iran's Revolutionary Guards, deputy commander Abbas Nilforoushan, was also killed in the strikes in Beirut on Friday. Iranian supreme leader Khamenei was also moved to a secure location in the aftermath of the attacks, sources told Reuters.

Israel claimed to have hit more than 140 Hezbollah “terror targets” in Lebanon on Saturday, including Hassan Nasrallah and other Hezbollah commanders such as Muhammad Ali Ismail, along with his deputy, Hossein Ahmed Ismail.

Hassan Nasrallah's daughter Zainab was also killed in the strikes on Friday.

More than 1,000 people have been killed and more than 6,000 wounded in the past two weeks, the health ministry said, and about one million Lebanese have been displaced by the strikes.

Lebanon crisis live updates: UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres expressed "grave concern" about escalation of conflict in Beirut in the past 24 hours.

A statement by his spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said, “The Secretary-General is gravely concerned by the dramatic escalation of events in Beirut in the last 24 hours.”

He added, “This cycle of violence must stop now, and all sides must step back from the brink. The people of Lebanon, the people of Israel, as well as the wider region, cannot afford an all-out war.”

Lebanon crisis live updates: The health ministry in Lebanon has stated that more than a 1,000 people have been killed in the last two weeks due to attacks by Israeli forces.

They also said that around 6,000 people had been injured. Several hospitals have been advised to not admit non-urgent cases to accommodate the growing number of casualties and wounded people from strike zones.

People have also been evacuated from residential areas and made to take shelter in primary schools and open fields.

Lavrov told a news conference, “I think — well not even I think but a lot of people say — that Israel wants to create the grounds to drag the U.S. directly into this, and so to create these grounds is trying to provoke Iran."

Lebanon crisis live updates: The United Nations has said that more than 211,000 people have been displaced from southern Lebanon in the aftermath of Israeli airstrikes.

People are being evacuated and have moved to the Syria border. Several hospitals outside southern Lebanon have been asked to not admit patients with non-emergency cases to accommodate those with critical cases from hard-hit area.

At least 20 primary healthcare centers have shut down as well said the U.N. Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.
