US Election 2024 live: The American Civil Liberties Union of Iowa filed a legal challenge on behalf of four Hispanic voters in a federal court on Wednesday against Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate.
Four voters were flagged by the official as naturalised officials who might not be citizens. Pate's office provided the county's auditors a list of 2,022 people who told the Department of Transportation that they are not citizens but subsequently registered to vote or voted.
The lawsuit said the voters should not be challenged on such basis, as it discriminates against naturalized citizens. Treating these voters differently from others in violation of their constitutional right to equal protection, the lawsuit argues. (AP)
