World Cup Captains List

Ten captains, nine of whom led their teams in the previous 50-over World Cup, are set to command their respective squads at the upcoming 2023 World Cup in India. The span of four years has ushered in notable transformations, with nearly every team experiencing a shift in leadership. In India, Virat Kohli has handed over the captain's armband to Rohit Sharma, while Pat Cummins has succeeded Aaron Finch as Australia's captain. Babar Azam has orchestrated a revival for Pakistan, after taking the reins from Sarfaraz Ahmed. Similarly, Dasun Shanaka has steered Sri Lanka's ship, offering them a shot at achieving what Dimuth Karunaratne and his team couldn't in England in 2019.

Retirements have also played a role, with Faf du Plessis exiting the scene. Temba Bavuma now steps into his shoes, determined to expunge South Africa's painful memories from the previous year's T20 World Cup. Eoin Morgan, the architect behind England's historic triumph in the maiden 50-over World Cup, has also transitioned. As they gear up to defend their championship, the responsibility now falls on the shoulders of Jos Buttler.

Amidst this sea of leadership changes, Kane Williamson stands as the lone exception. However, his participation in the World Cup is clouded by uncertainty due to a knee injury. Should he fail to substantiate his fitness within the next two weeks and undergo recovery, all ten teams might witness a reshuffle in their captaincy roles.
