Top Scorers in Asia Cup

13 ODIsAug 30 - Sep 17

The Asia Cup's 15 editions so far have delivered time after time, as the tournament provides a platform for the continent's best teams to put on a show. Over the course of its nearly 40-year history, legends of the game have graced the stage during the Asia Cup, with some of world cricket's most legendary players proving their worth in the tournament. However, a few names have dominated the history of the tournament, especially with the bat.

The Asia Cup's all-time leading scorer is Sanath Jayasuriya. The former Sri Lanka opener redefined how the position is played in limited overs with his attacking and destructive style, and was good for 1220 runs across six editions between 1990 and 2008. Jayasuriya also has 6 centuries in the Asia Cup, most of any batter. The only other batter with over 1000 Asia Cup runs is Kumar Sangakkara, who had 1075 runs and four centuries as Sri Lanka dominated from the late 1990s into the early 2010s. At three in India's Sachin Tendulkar with 971 runs in 23 ODIs.

Jayasuriya's 378 runs in the 2008 edition is also the mark for the most runs in a single tournament for any player. In fact, the top two in this category were both marked in the 2008 tournament: Suresh Raina finished only 6 runs behind Jayasuriya that year. The highest score by a batter in Asia Cup history is Virat Kohli's legendary 183 against Pakistan in 2012, which remains his highest ODI score in his career as well. That is also the only score of over 150 in the Asia Cup.

In the two T20I editions of the Asia Cup, Kohli is one of the two centurions, alongside Hong Kong's Babar Hayat. Interestingly, both scored 122 runs. Kohli is the top scorer in the two T20 tournaments, with 429 runs at a whopping average of 85.80 in nine innings.
